1. Connection Problems
The problem most people have in connecting to Interlync under Win95, is a problem with the TCP/IP settings. To check this, go the Windows 95 Troubleshooting Guide.
  2. What is Rnaapp.exe? Why does it lock up?
If you use the Dial-Up Network of Windows 95, you might have experienced the following:
    1. The computer locks up.
    2. When you press Ctrl-Alt-Del, you can see Rnaapp.exe in the task list.
    3. When you kill it in the task list, everything is OK again.

You might have wondered what in the world Rnaapp.exe is, as you did not start it yourself. RNAAPP means Remote Network Access Application, and is part of the Dial-Up Network. Why does it lock up? Nobody knows, at least nobody wants to tell. Fortunately, there is a procedure that might solve the problem for you.

Download the ISDN Accelerator Pack 1.1 from Microsoft. Don't worry about the name, you can install it if you are using a modem or ISDN hardware without drivers for it. Simply ignore the ISDN-only files it installs. The point is that it includes updates to many components of Dial-Up Networking, including Rnaapp.exe. For many customers, this fixed the problem. An extra incentive, is that the "new" Dial-Up Networking has more features, too. For example, it includes the Dial-Up server from the Plus! pack and you can switch off the annoying confirmation window when starting a dial-up connection.

  3. How can I find out my IP Address if I have a dynamic IP each time?
Easy, just click on Start | Run, and enter in winipcfg. The IP you have at that time will be displayed for you.
  4. How I can determine (or display) the initial connect speed when using the Windows95 dialer?
Add S191=128 in the Extra Settings box. To do so, double-click on My Computer, then double-click on Control Panel. In the Control Panel, double-click on the Modems. Click on Properties, and then click on the Connection tab. In the bottom right, click on Advanced. In the Extra Settings area, type in S191=128.
  5. I'm trying to download a large file (about 12MB) and I can never get past 2MB before I get a network error of some sort.
With Dial-Up Networking in Windows95 the longest period for inactivity is 59 minutes. Downloading files cannot be seen by Dial-Up Networking as activity so at 59 minutes you get disconnected from Interlync. This might be the problem since it would take around 60 minutes to download 10 megs at 28.8.
