  1. What's FTP?
The most widely-used way of downloading and uploading (getting and putting) files across an Internet connection. The File Transfer Protocol is a standardized way to connect computers so that files can be shared between them easily. There is a set of commands in FTP for making and changing directories, transferring, copying, moving, and deleting files. Formerly, all FTP connections were text based, but graphical applications are now available that make FTP commands as easy as dragging and dropping.
  2. Download FTP here:
--- Winsock FTP (File Transfer Protocol); 32 bit (Windows 95)
  3. What is Anonymous FTP?
Many computer systems throughout the Internet offer files through anonymous FTP. This means that you can access a machine without having to have an account on that machine (i.e. you don't have to be an official user of the system). These anonymous FTP servers contain software, documents of various sorts, files for configuring networks, graphic images, song lyrics and all sorts of other information. Archives for electronic mailing lists are often stored on and are available through anonymous FTP. An enormous amount of information is stored on these machines and is ready for anyone who's seeking it. (Note that all this is subject to change, it is a privilege and the person responsible for the machine can shut it down at any time without you being able to do anything about it.)
  4. How do I FTP using a login and password, rather than anonymous when I'm using Netscape or MS Internet Explorer?

There are many different types of programs that you can use to upload your web pages to your site on Interlync's server. If you do not already have a program that you are comfortable using for FTPing purposes, we suggest you use WSFTP.  Listed below is information concerning the connection to Interlync's FTP server:

  1. The Host or Server name is ftp.Interlync.com.
  2. The Host Type or Host Recognition should be set to "Automatic Detect".
  3. Username or User ID is your "Interlync login name."
  4. The Password is your valid Interlync password.
  5. You should not enter a Remote Host or Directory name. When you login, you will automatically be placed into your directory on our server.
  6. The main page (HOME PAGE) of your web site should be named index.htm or index.html. When people try to view your web page, they will not need to know the name of your web page because the index.htm will automatically open in their browser.
  7. All graphics for your web page should be uploaded using Binary file transfer. This will ensure a good and reliable upload. In addition, this is the only way your graphics will be viewable on your web page. This option is normally the default tranfer method set in FTP programs.
